India is well known for its very diverse culture with many different languages across the country. Many gurus, sages travel all over India in search of spirituality and knowledge.

Many places in India are famous for their own beauty, culture and some religions and traditions.


When you hear the word Nickname, we all think about our family, friends and people who call us or whom we call them with some nicknames. We decide nicknames by keeping some things in mind for which the people are quite known for. For example nickname for siblings and friends are different compared to some famous personalities like scientists which we would rather call it as “Title”. Similarly we do have a nicknames for some of the cities in India which they are best known for.

 

Bhopal- The City of Lakes

Bhopal is one of the greenest cities in India, located in Madhya Pradesh state. It is also known as the City of Lakes for its number of natural and artificial lakes. It mainly consists of two lakes, Upper Lake and Lower Lake. Upper lake being called as Bada Talab which is connected to lower lake called as Chota Talab.

 

Calicut- The City of Spices

Calicut is also known as Kozhikode, the city located in Kerala state. It was 1st the capital of Malabar during Zamorin rule 500 years ago. It is famous for cotton trade and spices with Jews, Phoenicians, Arabs and Chinese. Hence the name city of spices.

 



Jhodpur- The Blue City/Sun City


Jhodpur being the second largest city in India is located in Rajasthan state. Jhodpur is also known as Blue city for more reasons. One reason being that it is associated with the Lord Shiva who consumed vicious poison in order to save the planet. The poison consumed by Lord Shiva turned his body into blue. Since then the followers of Lord Shiva believed the color blue to be the sacred blue. And the people who worshiped him for his sacredness painted their house in blue color. Hence the name Blue city. The other reason is that the blue color being a good reflector of sun, the houses are painted with the blue to keep their house cool in summer.

 

Surat- The Silk City/Diamond City

Surat is one among the cleanest city in India located in Gujurat state. Since Surat is well known for producing textiles including silk, it is also called as Silk city of India. Apart from producing textiles it is also well known for producing diamond. It handles about 90% of the world’s diamond cutting and polishing.



Nashik-The Wine capital of India

Nashik is an ancient and largest city located in Maharastra state. The city is quite famous for Kumba Mela festival which is celebrated once in 12 years. It is located about 190km from the Mumbai city which is the capital of Maharastra. It is also called as “wine capital of India” as half of India’s vineyards and wineries are located here. It supplies million cases of wine every year.

 

Darjeeling- Queen of Hills

Darjeeling is one among the most attractive dream destination for many who wish to spend their some quality time with the natural beauty of mountains. It is one of the planned hill resort located in Indian state of West Bengal. This place is located at a height of 2134 meters adding to its icy chilly weather of this hill station attracts the tourists. Besides tourists can enjoy the view of world’s highest peak The Everest from the Tiger Hill, which is very famous in north east tourism.

 

Tejpur- City Of Blood

Tejpur is the town in Sonitpur district of Assam state. This area is quite famous for tea Plantations along with the Forest and National Parks which attracts large number of tourists. The reason behind the name “ City  Of Blood” is when the entire city was drenched with human blood after fierce battle between Lord Krishna and Banasura, when Banasura imprisoned Aniruddha(grandson of Krishna). Hence the city was titled as “City Of Blood”.

 

Rishikesh- City Of Sages


Rishikesh is the city in northern state of Uttarkhand located on the banks of holiest Indian river Ganges. It is regarded as pilgrimage town as many Hindu sages and saints from all over India have visited this place and meditated in search of knowledge since ancient times. So the city Rishikesh is also known as “City Of Sages".

Pakistan is more happier than India?? Yes, you heard it right. According to “ World Happiness Report” the people in Pakistan are seem to be more happier when compared to People in India. Is that true? Yes, India has ranked 139 out of 149 countries when surveyed in terms of happiness. That means India is the 11 th worst country among all countries related to happiness. So, on what basis it has been reported that people in India are less happier when compared to the other countries.   Many of us know only the percentage growth in GDP of the country. Is it not necessary to measure the happiness of the country? Many politicians and businessman believe that measure of happiness is more necessary than measuring the GDP of the country. As we all know GDP is measured on basis of economical state of the country.
